KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 — The newly launched Shah Alam Light Rail Transit Line 3 (LRT3) has hit the ground running, recording more than 60,000 passenger trips on its first full day of service this Monday.
The figure, according to operator Rapid KL, covers the entire network ecosystem, including train services, feeder buses, and the Rapid KL On-Demand (ROD) service, providing commuters with a seamless, end-to-end journey.
Of the total ridership, 58,865 trips were made via train, while 3,319 were recorded across the first-and-last mile network, comprising 1,883 feeder bus trips and 1,436 ROD journeys.
Rapid KL said that the high turnout reflects a significant public appetite for the new mobility option. The line is designed to bridge critical gaps between residential areas, employment centres, educational institutions, and commercial hubs across Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, and Klang.
Prasarana Malaysia Bhd president and group CEO Amir Hamdan described the response as a clear indicator of public acceptance.
“More than 60,000 trips on the first day shows that the public truly needs better public transport options along the western corridor of the Klang Valley,” Amir said.
“This is a very encouraging start. We will continue to monitor ridership patterns, operational performance, and user feedback to ensure the travel experience keeps improving.”
To ensure a smooth rollout, Rapid KL has deployed a full contingent of operations staff, station personnel, and “Rapid Troopers” at all stations to guide passengers on facilities and transfers to feeder buses and ROD services.
To encourage more commuters to experience the integrated network, free fares for all trips on the Shah Alam Line and its accompanying feeder buses will remain in effect until July 31.
